Purpose:
The purpose of this article for keeping a copy of your WordPress installation in a downloadable file form if you wish to create a snapshot of your site, You may do this at any time for your own purposes, but it may generate a very large file and you don’t delete after downloading, you will fill up your server space.
This is not for regular backups. I keep backups for you on a backup server. It is included in your hosting. If you wish to do this to keep a snapshot of your hosting or site just in case, be sure you download and then delete the backup on the server.

External options to WordPress backups are Updraft Plus or All-In-One migration. They advertise as free but there if you site is over a certain size–SPOILER ALERT: it is not free. I believed that they store the copy of your site on their servers which is why the file size limitations.
NOTE: this method will not work if you are near or at your hosting space allocation. The backup and compression of files may require double the current size of your usage. Check your space usage before you begin backup. Put in a ticket on this site to ask for more space for final backup or ask me or create a ticket to generate the backup and follow the instructions below to download the file.
