# Backup WordPress For Download

**Purpose:**

The purpose of this article for keeping a copy of your WordPress installation in a downloadable file form if you wish to create a snapshot of your site, You may do this at any time for your own purposes, but it may generate a very large file and you don't delete after downloading, you will fill up your server space.

***This is not for regular backups.**I keep backups for you on a backup server. It is included in your hosting. If you wish to do this to keep a snapshot of your hosting or site just in case, be sure you download and then delete the backup on the server.*

To backup your WordPress site for downloading, [CLICK HERE](https://app.screencast.com/1VRP28iXX3Rvg) for instructions on using the Softaculous wizard. If you wish to revive your site in the future, all I would need is that file.

External options to WordPress backups are Updraft Plus or All-In-One migration. They advertise as free but there if you site is over a certain size--SPOILER ALERT: it is not free. I believed that they store the copy of your site on their servers which is why the file size limitations.

***NOTE: this method will not work if you are near or at your hosting space allocation.***The backup and compression of files may require double the current size of your usage. Check your space usage before you begin backup. Put in a ticket on this site to ask for more space for final backup or ask me or [create a ticket](https://websbyamy.com/support)to generate the backup and follow the instructions below to download the file.
