Holiday Making a Difference Widget

Friendly reminder from mom (I have 4 kids so that's pretty much my name anyway) to remove your Holiday Extravaganza widget from your site.

This morning I noticed an announcement on SU's American side about what SU does at the holidays to benefit charities–pretty much all American ones. I didn't see it announced on the Canadian website this morning but you can feel free to correct me (email me directly) or I suppose use it anyway. We are proud of what SU does no matter for what country.

I also didn't see that it was listed on our individual DBWS's, so you are fine leaving the link to the corporate site.

Create a Watermark in Paint.net

I have created a short (okay, 15 minutes… so not that short) step-by-step video on how to make your own watermark in Paint.net and then place it on a photo. If you are receiving this post via email feed, the video won't show up, you must go back to the article (click on article title).

I have created two previous videos on how to download free Paint.net and install it as well as how to edit a photograph and embed a watermark in it HERE. The latter video assumes you already have a watermark and this one shows you how to create and save as a transparent .png. Good luck!

Paint.net Tutorial

I have embraced Paint.net as my new 'free photo editor' of choice over Gimp. The videos below are for the purpose of giving you a free alternative for editing your photos for the fastest viewing quality for the web as well as shows you how to watermark your work.

I have found Paint easier to install and use immediately. And recently I have found that there are plugins that will add functionality, such as one that allows editing of Photoshop .psd files and another one that allows Paint.net to use Photoshop brushes.

DOWNLOADING & INSTALLING PAINT.NET – you would think that this wouldn't be difficult, but I have found that the page that you usually are directed to when typing in www.getpaint.net, is full of other software that you can be easily tricked into downloading accidentally. UPDATE: CLICK HERE to download the .exe file, once you download it, you probably can update it. If you want to download the latest version, this video will navigate you through downloading the zip file, unzipping and installing.

EDITING & WATERMARKING A PHOTO from your camera for viewing on the web. This video does import and place a watermark that is a pre-existing .png file. If you wish to see how to create your own watermark, CLICK HERE for a video tutorial.

Planned server outtage this weekend

PLEASE NOTE: My hosting server will be down on Saturday, July 30th from 11:00 pm EST – 3:00 am EST on the 31st for a planned upgrade.

The good news is that I am upgrading my hosting to enable a 'mirrored' server capability which means that if there is an equipment failure (like we had last week) the 'mirror' portion of the server will come online for no loss of data or downtime.

As a reminder, if you are on Facebook, I now have a business page that you can refer to if the server is down (or you can also catch my posts which will feed through there). I need about 10 more 'likes' to get a username… so give a girl a hand… .

I have created a Facebook business page that you should click to 'Like' to view not only the articles that I publish here, but also in the case (such as yesterday) that there is a server failure, you can get status updates. When the server has issues, my site will also not be working nor my mail. Fortunately, this does not happen often, however this should help the flow of information.

All sites were back online by 9:00 pm last evening. If you site isn't viewing properly, please contact me ASAP, a few of them required a little more tweaking to view properly. You can reach me at my home number of 610-255-1660 and my cell # is on my voicemail if I am not home. If you are experiencing an issue with your site, I do not mind you contacting me any day or night.

Server outtage Thursday, July 21

My apologies for the ongoing server outtage yesterday. Sites began coming online again at approximately 7:30 pm EST and appeared to be complete by 8:30 pm. If you haven't checked your site lately or it is still not working, please contact me ASAP.

I was moved to a new server as there was equipment malfunction on the one we were on. In the move, I know that my own downline/membership site needed to be tweaked, so please check your site and also login to be sure. The fix is quick, but you need to contact me.

As a reminder, I have a blog at www.websbyamy.wordpress.com that you can refer to for updates if my site is down.
